The
GOLD and SILVER ORDER OF MERCURY, SILVER WAHATCHEE, and BREVET COLONEL Awards are
very prestigious awards, please read through the criteria for these
awards before submitting nominations. Significant contributions to the
Association and Regiment are required for these awards and they are all
National Awards Board approved ONLY.
Gold Order of Mercury
The SCRA now offers a Gold Order of Mercury to honor any Signal
Soldier who died while deployed to or as a direct result of injuries or
illness sustained in a GWOT Theater. In addition to those soldiers
who are deployed to a GWOT Theater of Operations, the Gold order of
Mercury is also available for those soldiers who are killed in the line
of duty or died from injuries or illness sustained by any terroristic
action anywhere in the world and validated as such by the National
Signal Corps Regimental Association Board of Directors. This award is
presented to the soldier posthumously and should be used by the unit to
provide to the family members during any memorial ceremony or event that
recognizes the soldier. This award is at no cost to the unit. We just
need to know as soon as possible so that we can prepare, package, and
ship to you as soon as possible. The awarding of the Gold Order of
Mercury automatically includes the option to award the Gold Wahatchee to
the spouse. This is also at no cost and you only need to let us know
names of all concerned.

The Order of Mercury
The Order of Mercury, is a two-level award, Silver
and Bronze, awarded to Association members in good standing. The Silver
Order of Mercury is SCRA's highest award, given to people who stand
above their peers and have made conspicuous long-term significant
contributions to the Signal Regiment and the Signal Corps Regimental
Association.
The primary purpose of the Signal Corps Regimental
Association awards program is to recognize deserving *members of the
Association who have made significant contributions to both the
Signal Corps (Regiment) and the Signal Corps Regimental Association.
They are available to any member of the Association of any rank or
grade, military, military retiree, DA civilian, or civilian, serving in
any capacity in support of our Regiment. Since Orders of Mercury are
Association awards justifications must clearly describe those
significant contributions the nominee has made to our Association and
the Regiment. Association membership alone does not justify an award
at any level. The purpose of our Association is to support our Regiment
and these awards recognize the individuals who have most energetically
and actively contributed to the Regiment and our Association. Standard
military or civilian service awards are the appropriate choice to
recognize contributions to the Army in general.
Association awards are unique and special to our
members and our Regiment. To maintain the integrity of these awards it
is essential that nominators and those involved in the approval process
adhere to the criteria and uphold the standards for these awards. To do
otherwise will deflate the significance of these awards and be unfair to
those who have met these criteria and have been presented these awards.
Our Board of Directors asks that those **colonels of the Regiment with
Bronze Order of Mercury approving authority stand by these criteria
* A
colonel of the
Regiment is defined as any Signal Corps Colonel or a colonel in
functional area 24 or 53 who has officially
affiliated with the
Regiment.
Awards can be
submitted electronically to
manager@signalcorps.org
Signal Corps Regiment Association National Office,
4570 Dewey Drive,
Martinez, Georgia 30907.
The preferred and most expedient method of submission is via
email. For email submissions, you can purchase the
award once approved in the SCRA Store.
The Silver Order of Mercury is
SCRA's highest award, given to people who stand above their
peers and have made conspicuous long-term significant
contributions to the U.S. Army Signal Corps and the Signal
Regimental Association.
Any Signal Corps Regimental
Association member may nominate someone for the silver and
bronze Order of Mercury. The national SCRA award board is the
only approving authority for the silver award, but any Signal
Corps colonel or general can approve the bronze award. The award
board may approve, disapprove or downgrade the silver nomination
to the bronze award.
To nominate someone for a Silver
Order of Mercury, prepare a detailed one-page justification and
obtain the endorsement of a Signal Corps colonel or general
officer. Forward the nomination with justification, along with
$35 payment for the award, to SCRA national headquarters (
address listed above). The packet should arrive at SCRA National
Headquarters not later than four weeks prior to the desired
presentation date.
SCRA's award board then judges the awards package. After
receiving the award board's decision, SCRA will either prepare
the award package and mail it, or return the package and
prepayment to the nominator.
This is the Association’s highest award and therefore must be
reserved for those select few who have provided highly
significant, long-term contributions to both our Association and
our Regiment. The Silver Order of Mercury represents a
substantially greater level of contribution over a longer period
than the Bronze Order of Mercury. Justification for this award
is to be based upon continuous exceptional service to the
Association in leadership positions and/or Chapter activities,
as well as dedicated service to our Regiment.
The Silver Order of Mercury can be approved ONLY by the SCRA
National Board of Directors.
The Silver Order of Mercury
can be approved ONLY by the SCRA National Board of Directors.
The Bronze Order of Mercury
recognizes those people who have demonstrated the highest
standards of integrity, moral character, professional competence
and selflessness, and who have contributed significantly to the
promotion of the Signal Corps and the Signal Regimental
Association.
To nominate someone for the Bronze Order of Mercury, prepare a
detailed one-page justification and obtain approval from the
approving authority -- any Signal Corps colonel or general
officer who is an active SCRA member. When a Corps colonel or GO
is not available, the award board may approve the award.
The nominator then forwards the approved nomination, along with
$35 payment for the award, to SCRA National Headquarters
(address listed above). The packet should arrive at Fort Gordon
not later than four weeks before the desired presentation date.
This award is to be given to members of the Association
who have served the Regiment well and have made a
significant contribution to the Association’s activities
in the pursuit of its goals. A nominee’s grade and
length of service must be considered as to degree of
contribution to our Regiment, length of Association
membership, and participation in our Association.
Special consideration must be given to our functional
area officers who have their first opportunity to become
both members of the Regiment and Association only when
they become Career Field Designated as a major so may
first only learn of our Association at that time.
The Bronze Order of Mercury can be approved by any
colonel of the Regiment* who is also a member in good
standing with the Association. The nominee must also be
an outstanding member of the Regiment and a member of
the Association. Colonels of the Regiment must zealously
maintain the standard of this award. If a colonel of
the Regiment is not available, the nominator can submit
the recommendation to SCRA National Board of Directors
where it will be placed before the awards board.
* A colonel of the Regiment is defined as any
Signal Corps colonel or a colonel in functional area 24
or 53 who has officially affiliated with the Regiment.
The intent of this award is to
recognize those non-government, government civilians, or
uniformed members of the armed forces, other than those of the
Signal Regiment, who have made significant contributions over a
period of time to the Regiment or the Association. Specifically,
such individuals could be federal, state, or local government
officials, military members from a different department or
branch, industry partners, or community leaders deserving
special recognition. The justification for this award is based
primarily on their long term relationship with the Regiment.
To nominate someone for the Brevet Colonel, prepare a nomination
letter and a one-page letter of justification. Forward the
nomination with justification, along with $35 payment for the
award, to SCRA national headquarters. The nomination packet
should arrive at SCRA National Headquarters not later than four
weeks before the desired presentation date. SCRA will forward
the approved award to the nominator, or return the package and
prepayment if disapproved.
The National SCRA Awards Board is the
only approving authority for the Brevet Colonel Award.
The Wahatchee Award, named
for Georgia patriot Nancy Hart, is a Signal Corps award given to
people who exemplify the volunteer spirit and have given the
Corps long-term service. The award has two levels, silver and
bronze, paralleling the Order of Mercury.
The nomination packet for either award should include a cover
memorandum from the nominator; a one-page, double-spaced
justification which details the nominee's contributions to the
Signal Corps community; a point of contact with complete mailing
address and desired presentation date; and payment for the
award. The Wahatchee costs $30.
Processing time is four weeks. The package should be sent to
SCRA national headquarters.
After the nominator forwards the nomination packet to SCRA, SCRA
prepares and mails the approved awards back to the nominator.
Disapproved nominations are returned to the nominator with the
prepayment. If a Silver Wahatchee request is downgraded to a
Bronze Wahatchee, the difference in cost is returned to the
nominator.
Bronze Wahatchee
The
Bronze Wahatchee is for individuals who have voluntarily
contributed in a significant way to the improvement of
the Signal Corps community.

authority for the bronze may be a Signal Corps

authority may be the national SCRA award board.
The nomination packet for the Bronze Wahatchee
award should include a cover memorandum from the
nominator; a one-page justification which details the
nominee's contributions to the Signal Corps community; a
point of contact with complete mailing address and
desired presentation date; and payment for the award.
